FAQS

When should I arrive for my wave?

Waves occur every half hour starting at 9:30 and ending at 1:30. The event will be open to the public from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, but plan on being there for check-in at least an hour before your start time.

What should I wear?

This is a multi-sport event, in which you will participate in 6 obstacles, 2 of which (paddle boarding and the slide) involve getting wet and dirty. Showers are available, but we recommend bringing a change of clothes, and/or something that you can get wet in. New England weather changes every 5 minutes, so be prepared for changes in temperature. Personal flotation devices will be provided for the paddle board obstacle.

Will there be food and drink available?

Yes. Visit our About page. There will be food and drink for participants, but bring money to buy additional beverages, food and some great vendor gear. Credit cards aren’t always an option depending on the vendor. You can not bring alcohol, weapons or promotional materials for others events to the race. All bags and coolers are subject to inspection and violators of this rule will be escorted off the premises by security. (Sounds like common sense to us, but they make us put this stuff in writing!)

Can I start a team? How do they work?

Simply have your teammates sign up for the same start time and enter the same team name in the “team name” section of our online registration system. There’s no limit to how many members are on a team. We encourage “team” outfits but discourage costumes that may make some of the obstacles difficult if not dangerous.

Do I have to finish within a certain amount of time?

Finish time will depend on your athletic ability. Generally 45 minutes, most people will finish within 60-90 minutes. Only the Road Race is timed. The obstacle course is not timed and is non-competitive. Take it at your own pace and have fun!

If you’re in great shape and want to rock this, then by all means, GO FOR IT!

What happens if I need medical assistance?

There will be a nurse at the race in case of injuries. The first aid tent will be clearly marked and located near the finish line.

What happens in the event of a hurricane or event cancellation due to an ‘Act of God’?

The race will not be canceled for rain. If there’s lightning, we’ll delay the waves until it passes. When the race resumes, waves will go off at 15-minute intervals until the race is back on schedule. If there is severe weather that prevents the event from being held at all on Sunday, we are unable to give refunds but credit can be applied to a future Women Run event.

Who are you raising money for?

The Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, Lucy’s Hearth in Newport and Fort Adams Trust.  Purchase with a purpose and know you are helping another woman or girl!

Will there be bathrooms available?

Yes there will be facilities near the parking and vending areas available.

Where do I park?

There is FREE parking when you enter Fort Adams.

Be aware there are a limited number of spots available so be sure to add enough time before your wave starts and PLEASE consider CARPOOLING.

Can family and friends cheer me on?

Absolutely, the more the merrier. If they are not participating in The Sanity Chase there will be several spots to spectate along the course. Be sure to have them bring along a camera to capture you in action. Bring the family along, or make it a girls day – guilt free!!

Is there a Lost and Found?

There will be a lost and found  located at the registration tent.

Can I wear earbuds?

No, earbuds will not be permitted on the obstacle course. This is a safety issue and they may get wet!

What kind of shape do I have to be in to finish the race?

The course is approximately 4 miles, but the obstacles involve stopping and starting, so running endurance is not essential. Again, it is not timed and is noncompetitive so take it at your own pace and have fun!

Will there be a pre-race packet pickup?

Yes and we  encourage you to take advantage of it to avoid any lines at check in on the day of the race. Saturday September 13 th from 1-4pm the WOMEN RUN truck will be in the Fort Adams parking lot distributing numbers and accepting new registrations. Yes, you can pickup race bibs for a friend if they have registered on-line.

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend?

Will you accept mail in entries?

How is the race structured?

Waves run every half hour starting at 9:30 a.m.  Choose your start time when you register. Waves are limited to 80 people to prevent back-ups at obstacles and the most popular waves (9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.)  fill up quickly.

Will there be pictures taken at the event?

Women and girls ages 9-99 can participate!  Younger girls need to be accompanied by an adult in their wave.

When should I show up on day of race?

Please arrive at least 1 hour before your wave starts. This gives you enough time to park, stretch, hydrate, check-in, etc. If you miss your start time, we’ll do our best to accomodate you but if the race is a sold out, you may not be able to run.

How do I form a team?

Simply have your teammates sign up for the same start time and enter the same team name in the “team name” section of our online registration system. There’s no limit to how many members are on a team.

Can I wear a costume?

No this is an obstacle course and for your safety we don’t recommend it. Feel free to color coordinate or wear the same shirts as long as there are no obstructions that would jeopardize your safety.

What do I need to do when I arrive at the race?

Check-in at the registration tent to pickup your Bib and t-shirt unless you picked up on Saturday.

I am pregnant/have a medical issue, can I still participate?

We may know how to put on a fantastic event, but our knowledge in the prenatal/medical field is limited. Consult with your physician before registering.

What if I can’t complete a particular obstacle?

Although all obstacles are manageable, there are some obstacles with varying degrees of difficulty to accommodate to various fitness levels. We would like you to try to complete each obstacle, but if you feel you can’t then you can go around that particular obstacle.

Do I have to know how to swim to do the paddle boat obstacle?

No. The water will only be to your waist and you must wear a life vest to compete. If you don’t feel comfortable you may always bypass the obstacle. As always, safety first.

When is the latest I can register?

On-line registration will close Saturday September 13th at 10 pm. If there is still room left we will offer day of registrations. Check website for updates and availability.

Can I transfer my registration to another person?

This is always a good question. We are not able to accomodate this request as of yet. Please email us directly if this is a concern and we will do our very best to accomodate.

Is The Sanity Chase really for women and girls only?

Yes. But the great news, spectators are more then welcome to come cheer you on that day! Dogs (pets of any kind), though we love them as much as you do, will need to stay home that day.

What if a wave is sold out?

Each wave has a limited amount of space and once a wave is full it is sold out. Anyone who is already registered has the ability to switch to another open wave that day if there is still space available.
